How much you pay your agent should really be the prerogative of the bidder in a competitive bidding environment.
8After all, if the bidder is willing to pay a high amount, he will have to work it into his bid price, thereby risking losing the tender.
8That argument has stopped ONGC from questioning how much a bidder may want to pay is Indian agent
8Is this principle now under threat?

A storm has been created by the award of a Rs 250 crore contract to EIL on a OBE route
8The competition has claimed that ONGC had ignored a tender invited for a consultant for the job
8Within ONGC too, the opinion is divided over whether an LSTK or an OBE route should have been followed for the tender
Click on Details for more Details
It is going to be increasingly difficult for EIL to walk away with nomination contracts in ONGC, it seems
8Unlike in the downstream sector, where EIL had a near hegemony, the E&P sector is much more technology-intensive segment and EIL has been losing its edge of late
8Even in areas such as gas processing or crude sweetening, where EIL has the requisite experience, landing a nomination contract or an OBE contract, will not be easy anymore

Is there a likelihood of the Modi administration launching a Universal Basic Income (UBI) scheme before the 2019 elections?
8If it does, then the UBI will be pivoted around the energy sector -- involving both oil & gas and the power sector -- rather than on the Public Distribution System (PDS) for foodgrains and the fertilizer subsidy scheme.
8This is because the poor gains more from a UBI scheme centered around delivering full energy prices to the customer than if food and fertilizer subsidies are included in the scheme.
8If Modi can finish up his 100% electricity linkages to all households quickly enough, a UDI announcement can become a real possibility.
8If it really happens, the oil & gas sector will go through a tumultuous and unprecedented transformation.
8No doubt the announcement of such a scheme if not its implementation before 2019 will be a political game changer and only a risk taker like Modi is capable of taking such a decision.

President Trump's willingness to sit in talks with the Iranians is an indication that he may be in as much pressure as the Iranians to look for a compromise
8Latest estimates show that the disruption to Iran’s crude exports will be to the tune of 700,000 bpd
8Analysts are saying that this will bring about a significant upside risk to oil prices in the fourth quarter as a result of sanctions.

RIL has won the arbitration battle against the $1.55 billion claim by the government over the so-called gas migration dispute.
8This is a big shot-in-the-arm for the private sector giant, currently under pressure on its E&P business on account of falling D-6 output even as it waits for new gas to come in from fresh investments in the KG basin.
8The crux of the argument against the government by the tribunal is that the Production Sharing Contract does not prevent the contractor from producing gas, irrespective of its source, as long as the producing wells are located inside the contract area.
8The government is still to decide on the next course of action. Arbitration procedures have now become complicated and it will take years of litigation before either side can come out a clear winner.
8RIL's E&P division is expected to see a big turnaround once new gas begins to flow in from the monetization of its discoveries in the KG Basin, beginning 2020.

The government plans to launch launch Discovered Small Fields (DSF) Round 2 this month.
8A total of 60 discoveries have been clubbed into 26 contract areas spread over 3100 sq km.

8Our website provides the most comprehensive mapping of how the Round-1 fields are doing as of now. Some have entered the contracting phase, others have not. A few have discovered that the fields have far less hydrocarbon than they earlier envisaged
Find out more on those entrepreneurs who are not from oil & gas business but nevertheless rushed in but are now struggling to learn the business.
Our mapping of DSF Round-1 fields includes:
-- Live updates on progress made by each field
-- Realistic assessments of their commissioning dates

Strident domestic lobbies are fighting against allowing the export of gas in the US and Australia.
8Find our more on how these lobbies may eventually impact the LNG trade much more than a whole lot of other factors
8With US getting more protectionist, the domestic gas consuming industry is lobbying Washington to stop US gas supplies to countries such as India where the domestic gas industry is subject to forced underpricing
8Potent jobs gained vs. jobs lost arguments are being thrown at proponents of LNG exports.
8There is a lobby in Australia that claims that gas is more expensive in some parts of the continent than the landed price of Australian LNG in Japan
