Petcoke consumption continues to increase despite NCR ban: What is prompting it?

Petcoke consumption registered a growth of 9.2% in January, 2018 as compared to January, 2017 and on cumulative basis, a growth of 7.6% was registered for the period April to January 2018. 8On the other hand, FO and LSHS consumption registered a growth of 4.7% during January, 2018 as compared to January, 2017 and a drop of -7.2% was recorded for the period April to January 2018 as compared to the same period last year. 8Naphtha consumption recorded a growth of 2.0% for the month of January, 2018 and a drop of -7.7% for the period April 2017 to January 2018 as compared to April 2016 to January 2017. 8Clearly, the ban Pet Coke ban in the NCR region has not impacted its consumption elsewhere in the country. In fact, given the negative impact of the ban, the rise in consumption in January is even more conspicuous. 8The data above shows that it consumptions is staying ahead of other industrial fuels. 8One possible reason for higher petcoke consumption could be the high cost of imported LNG, which makes petcoke a relative cheaper fuel.
