Counterview-IV: Private competition does not make a dent
Feb 20: Private competition seems not to matter much for the country's publicly owned oil marketing companies
8Despite more than three years of deregulation, there is not enough competition so far.
8Essar Oil has 4,175 retail outlets while RIL has about 1,300, together less than 10% of retail outlets of the OMCs.
8OMCs own 92% of terminals/depots, 87% of ATF stations and 91% of retail outlets.
8They also own almost all product pipelines.
8Absence of a large number of terminals and product pipelines has been the major bottleneck for the non-OMCs.
