Is coal going through a revival, albeit a temporary one?
8Latest indications are that are expecting a flood of demand from buyers in Chinese companies wanting cargoes after restocking has emerged subsequent to freezing temperatures in China. Low temperatures pushed power plant thermal coal consumption to high levels, and prices to a 14-month high.
8On the longer term too, some are seeing a revival in demand for cleaner coal even though its share in the energy mix continues to fall
8Base load power stations will continue to run on coal for a long time to come despite a spurt in renewable capacity creation
