8Several research groups around the world have done extensive work in developing experimental and computational studies to gain better understanding of the different stages of UCG.
8In order for India to tap into UCG on a commercial scale, implementation has to be preceded by the development of a certain level of expertise in geological characterization, characterization of coal cores and accuracy in estimating the quantity of resource available for conversion.
8Modeling is now available, based on Indian and international data, to take UCG to commercial levels.
8What is needed is a coherent nationwide programme with defined objectives.
