Diesel market under threat-I: Renewable energy with storage can eliminate the market entirely in the foreseeable future
Jul 21: The diesel generation market -- and the attendant market for fossil fuels -- can be under very serious threat within the foreseeable future from distributed renewable energy with storage capacities. 8Such renewable capacities are now technically and economically viable. 8Interestingly, a great variety of electricity storage technologies can be applied to provide different functions at different locations. 8The point to note is that no single electricity storage technology scores well in all dimensions, and the technology of choice depends largely on system size, specific service required, electricity sources and the marginal cost of peak electricity. 8But the remote area electricity supply and the standby power generation paradigm is likely to be resolved sooner than later through renewable technology solutions.
