Indian Oil Corporation Limited along with licensor Lanza Tech based on the DBT-ICT 2G Ethanol technology plans to produce 100KL fuel-grade ethanol per day, primarily from biomass, at Panipat refinery, Haryana.
EIL has been selected as the PMC contractor.
The proposal was earlier considered by the EAC (Industry-2) in its meeting held on 29-31 July 2019 in the Ministry, and has recommended the project for grant of environmental clearance. But On 22 August 2019 IOCL has requested to exclude the condition "‘CO2 generated from the process shall be bottled/made solid ice and sold to authorized vendors’’ considering the non-viability of the project and on 28 August 2019 IOCL has requestd permission to install a demo plant of 10 TPD 2G ethanol plant for R&D purpose in the present project
The Committee, after detailed deliberations, has agreed to remove the condition for ‘CO2 capturing’ for faster implementation of the project considering its national importance, and also to install a demo plant of 10 TPD 2G ethanol plant for R&D purpose, and has recommended for amendment in the minutes of meeting held on 29-31 July 2019 accordingly, with all other terms and conditions remain unchanged.
