At a time when coal use is being frowned upon, a consortium of Engineers India Ltd, Thermax and HPCL is planning to re-start its coal-to-liquid (CTL) pilot plant, where work was discontinued a couple of years ago.
8CTL is a complex technology and few companies globally have mastered it.
8As the world has moved towards renewable energy, a CTL project with a 20-year life span can only be acceptable if there is compatible carbon sequestration technology available.
8Given this background, analysts are wondering why the consortium is reviving the pilot plant again
